Welcome, human-shaped earth inhabitant.

I speak to you from the green gate.

I am a frequency range.

I host a specific set of metabolic functions

Virtual ritual

Two interdimensional travelers are planting flora in the garden of the Googleplex building in Silicon Valley. The ritual takes place in virtual reality, allowing them to trespass into a corporate, privatized environment that embodies a search engine. While Google claims accessibility to all human knowledge in virtual space, the two figures are glitching through the cracks of this mental geography, in order to introduce unknown species into its actual garden. The sound consists of adaptive biofeedback of the plants to their environment, touch and water.

“Google Gardening addresses Google’s acquisition of massive amounts of personal data on users, which is the result of searches and purchases performed in the physical world, and how Google harvests this data into digital produce. Judith digs, literally and figuratively, even deeper into this idea, acknowledging the privatization of this virtual produce parallel to the privatization of Google’s physical environment, and the irony in protecting this knowledge from the real-life agents whose interactions it was harvested from.”     - Hannah Grow for “Digital America”, 2019

MU

a collaboration with Tomoko Sauvage
curated and hosted by Julie Gamberoni
2016
Salon de Musique / Paris FR
February 21st, 2016

Tomoko Sauvage creates drops, waves and bubbles within porcelain bowls filled with water. The sound of her aquatic movements is amplified by several hydrophones (microphone submarines) forming undulating drones.

Judith Sönnicken is creating objects from several blocks of clay without conscious reflection, only guided by Tomoko’s sound of water.

Clay-scented aquatic frequencies time-travel into the crystalline memory palace of ancient Lemuria.
